I recommend visiting Spain because it's a small country but it has an incredible diversity in history, geography, culture and cuisine!

What one thing would you like your students to know about you?

The best part about living in Los Angeles is...
The diversity of Los Angeles is an attraction for me. Los Angeles is linguistically, ethnically and culturally diverse. There are people from everywhere coexisting in Los Angeles. It is very motivating the number of cafes and restaurants serving different food and beverages from all over the world; the variety of languages and consequently how easy is to communicate with others. I love the weather, the sun, to sit in a terrace and contemplate the 'Angelino' life style, to walk by the beach and enjoy the breeze of the ocean, and the multiple activities which can be done in LA (concerts, museums, opera, ballet, theater, etc.)

Recommend a place to visit where Spanish is the native language, and tell us why you like it.
Every year in October the emblematic Egyptian Theatre hosts the last edition of 'Recent Spanish Film Cinema,' featuring leading figures in the Spanish film industry, who have contributed significantly to put Spanish productions at the vanguard of filmmaking worldwide. Attending these sessions give anyone the opportunity to interact in Spanish with the audience as well as with the actors and directors.

What Spanish film or musical artist do you recommend students watch or listen to?
I would recommend two movies, one from Spain and the other one from Mexico. I strongly recommend the movie 'Sunday's Illness (La enfermedad del domingo)' directed by Ramon Salazar (Spain) in 2018. The second movie I recommend without reserve is 'Roma' directed by Alfonso Cuaron (Mexico) in 2018.

What most surprises your students about Spanish?
The conjugation of the verbs, specially the subjunctive, is difficult to understand as there is not equivalent in English. The figurative language is very rich and it is very commonly utilized in the Spanish literary production. In oral language, it surprises my students the speed Spanish speakers use in their dialogues.

What one thing would you like your students to know about you?
I love all kind of arts, including but not restricted to classical music, opera, theatre, movies, museums, etc. I exercise frequently practicing yoga, walks by the beach, and hiking. I follow closely basketball and tennis. However, the main thing I want my students to know about me is that my Spanish classes at BH Lingual Institute is the time I enjoy the most during my week.

The best part about living in Los Angeles is...
The diversity of cultures and languages that you can find, and the handy opportunities to practice the language you are learning.

Recommend a place to visit where Spanish is the native language, and tell us why you like it.
I would recommend the whole of Latin America and South America. Every country has its own particular beauty and interesting slight variations of this rich language.

What Spanish film or musical artist do you recommend students watch or listen to?
Mark Anthony. He has a great number of songs that people can enjoy and start singing in Spanish. Students might also choose a TV series in Netflix. I personally enjoyed La Casa de las Flores.

What most surprises your students about Spanish?
My students like learning the similarities and differences between English and Spanish - not only in vocabulary and grammar, but also in ways of expressing emotion.

What one thing would you like your students to know about you?
That I love speaking Spanish - but most of all, that I love teaching it! That every class is a new opportunity to exchange ideas and bring their own personality to share with the rest of us.

The best part about living in Los Angeles is...
What I like the most in Los Angeles is that there's something for everyone! I like its progressive approach to issues that matter to me, such as education, health care, and the environment. Its diversity and the unique opportunity to experience many ethnic traditions (culture, languages, art and cuisine). The outdoors, within a few miles you can be hiking, swimming in the ocean or cycling through bike paths. And, as a movie goer, there isn't a better place to be!

Recommend a place to visit where Spanish is the native language, and tell us why you like it.
I recommend South America. Starting in Colombia, head South to Bolivia, Ecuador and Perú, by bus. You'll be travelling through the magnificent Andes all the way down to the unimaginable beauty of the Inca's empire.

What Spanish film or musical artist do you recommend students watch or listen to?
Natalia Lafurcade from Mexico. Dance your heart out with the rhythms of reggaeton with Maluma, Shakira and J Balvin from Colombia. Enjoy a quiet night at home watching 'La casa de papel' in Spanish (Money Heist) on Netflix.

What most surprises your students about Spanish?
My students are always amazed by the different nuances and uses of the language in different countries. They also teach me new words and expressions they collect from their travels through Spanish speaking countries.

What one thing would you like your students to know about you?
I love to dance! Salsa, Cuban rueda and other tropical rhythms.

The best part about living in Los Angeles is...
The diversity of its people and the many languages we hear everywhere in LA.

Recommend a place to visit where Spanish is the native language, and tell us why you like it.
I highly recommend San Fernando City in the San Fernando Valley. Also, Plaza Olvera or 'La Placita' in Downtown (Olvera Street). One can find the very first house, church and plaza founded in Los Angeles. It has a beautiful open-air market, which offers a variety of goods from different Hispanic cultures.

What Spanish film or musical artist do you recommend students watch or listen to?
a) Serious Spanish learners should watch 'Destinos,' which is a free Spanish course in a telenovela-type format. A video course developed by the University of Illinois. b) Also, as a general practice, I'd suggest any Netflix series in Spanish. 'La Casa de las Flores' is a good one to immerse oneself in the culture.

What most surprises your students about Spanish?
They are always mesmerized by the natural rhythm of the spoken Spanish language at its natural speed.

What one thing would you like your students to know about you?
One thing about my philosophy of education: My slogan 'Soy una persona de éxito,' means that I do believe every person is capable of learning Spanish and any other language. This motto I use it at the beginning of every class and I ask everyone to repeat it just prior to the beginning of every lesson.

Meeting so many different people from so many different places under consistently beautiful skies.

Recommend a place to visit where Spanish is the native language, and tell us why you like it.
Colombia, and not just because I was born there, but because the Spanish spoken there is very standard and clear, making it much easier for beginners to understand, especially in Bogota. Colombia is also very beautiful!

What Spanish film or musical artist do you recommend students watch or listen to?
'Maria Full of Grace.'

What most surprises your students about Spanish?
I would have to say that students are always commenting on how expressive Spanish is.

Why Learn Spanish?

Learn [LANGUAGE] in Los Angeles

As the second most popular language in the U.S., Spanish can open doors both socially and professionally.

Forbes lists Spanish as one of the three most universally useful languages, calling it an extremely practical choice if your career is in sales, marketing, or health care. The 2010 Census found that Latinos make up 16 percent of the U.S. population, creating a consumer segment that has companies desperate to hire and retain bilingual employees.

If you are considering learning or brushing up on your Spanish language skills, you have come to the right place. The Beverly Hills Lingual Institute has been teaching Spanish classes for more than twenty years, earning an esteemed reputation in Los Angeles.

Learning a language can change your life.

Knowing how to say at least a few words in another language will break the ice at any business meeting, and will certainly make your vacation more pleasant.

You may also want to get in touch with your heritage by learning some of the language that your ancestors spoke. Language is a particularly good bridge in this regard, as it can often be a guide to the ways in which different cultures express not only ideas, but emotions. By exposing you to every aspect of the human condition, language allows you to study the past, understand the present, and ponder the future.

The Beverly Hills Lingual Institute invites you to learn Spanish at our award-winning school, where we are proud to offer Spanish and more than 35 other languages.

Our language school hires and retains exceptional Spanish teachers, eager to share their knowledge and love for their native land and the Spanish language.

Our attractive location, on-site parking and schedule all combine to facilitate your Spanish courses.

Read what our students say about us - and come experience the best Spanish courses in Los Angeles.

Why a Classroom Instead of an On-Line Course?

Clearly there are those who have been successful using on-line courses.

However, we have found that most students who are serious about learning Spanish do better in a classroom setting with native-speaking teachers, using college-level texts.

Languages are about far more than tedious grammar rules and arcane vocabulary.

Languages are about people.

American journalist Flora Lewis once said, "Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things."

As such, learning a language requires context, cultural and otherwise, which, we would submit, a native speaker is best equipped to provide.

The best way to discover a new language is to immerse yourself in it. Listen to the way it sounds, concentrate on the pronunciation, and look at how it is written. Above all, speak it. By listening and repeating, you'll enter a new world of ideas and peoples. A word spoken between ten and 20 times is remembered more readily than a word seen 50 to one hundred times.

Being surrounded by others who are interested in the Spanish language and culture will reinforce your interest and motivation. Learning together, with shared commitment, creates a pleasant and exciting education experience. As we're often told, acquiring a language through immersion really does feel like magic!

Research has shown time and time again that motivation and the establishment of clear goals at the outset are the keys to a learner's progress.

  • Regularly scheduled Spanish classes

  • Accountability from your teacher and the class

  • Individual attention to your learning style

  • Interaction with teacher and classmates

  • Continuity of teaching method at all levels

  • Stay with your classmates as you progress

Classes are held at our facility located at 8383 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 250 in Beverly Hills, California.

Most of our 80-minute classes are scheduled during the evening with the first session running from 6:00 to 7:20 pm, and the second session running from 7:35 to 8:55 pm.

We all speak one.
Some of us speak several.
A few of us know dozens.

Languages are a staple of everyday life, a necessity for getting by in the world and communicating with each other. They can help you get jobs, help you enjoy another country and culture - and even get you out of trouble.

Choose a language and begin to enjoy the extraordinary benefit of being bilingual or multilingual.

Private Classes

Some students prefer private lessons instead of a scheduled class, or occasionally take private classes to augment their existing, scheduled group course. Private classes are tailored to specific needs, and can be useful if a student's language knowledge is uneven, if a more intensified study program is needed, or if scheduling and privacy is a concern.

With our large staff of native speakers, we can schedule private lessons in most languages.

Private lessons are available in packages of eight, 80-minute sessions; or, if you are enrolled in a group class, your private lesson can be scheduled individually.

Alternative Programs

The majority of our scheduled language classes are designed for adult students who want to learn another language. We also offer the following alternative programs.

English | Accent Reduction

Classes evaluate the student's problem areas and focus on exercises designed to target and remedy those areas. Our Accent Reduction course focuses on pronunciation, stress, enunciation, diction, tonality, musicality, syntax, and articulation, through vowel and consonant exercises, work chants, tongue twisters, and readings. Individual attention is given to each student's area of difficulty.

English | Native Speaker

English | Native Speaker Classes

These classes are for those who grew up speaking English but want to improve and refine their English. Designed to give you the critical edge in English communication, they target grammar, spelling, and pronunciation.

Little Linguals

Little Linguals Classes

Designed for children aged 6 – 11, our "Little Lingual" classes meet once a week during the afternoon for one hour. Class content includes Alphabet, Songs, Games, Practical Words and Phrases, and Basic Dialogue. Children aged 12 and above can join our regularly scheduled adult classes.

These exciting classes are geared to get an early start on language learning while helping children enjoy and appreciate a different culture. This is the best time for them to learn a foreign language. The younger the learner, the better they are at mimicking new sounds and adopting pronunciation. The brain is open to new sounds and patterns in preadolescence.

Young children have the luxury of taking in a new language naturally. A child's brain is like a sponge, soaking up new vocabulary, sentence structure, words stress, pronunciation, and everything that makes up language quickly, easily - and, most importantly, without explicit grammatical instruction.

When you're an adult, learning a new language takes a bit more effort!

Little Linguals Classes

Young children have time to learn through play-like activities. Language lessons can be informal. Children's minds are not yet cluttered with facts to be stored and tested. Before children become self-conscious, they can try out their newly acquired languages without fear of embarrassment.

Children who grow up learning about languages develop empathy for others and a curiosity for different cultures and ideas. They're better prepared to take their place in a global society. In later years, career opportunities increase for those with additional languages to offer.

Studies by Harvard University confirm that learning additional languages increases critical thinking skills, creativity and flexibility of the mind in young children. Moreover, pupils who learn a foreign language outscore their non-foreign-language-learning peers in standardized verbal and math tests, indicating that learning additional language is a cognitive - and not just linguistic - activity. The brain, like any muscle, functions better with exercise. Learning a language involves memorizing rules and vocabulary, which helps strengthen that mental muscle.

Travel Classes

Travel Classes

Our Travel Classes are designed for those who are planning a trip and want to get more out of their travel experience. These classes are held twice a week for one month. They are language classes focused on travel conversation, pronunciation, and culture.
