Darī (Dari: دری‎) or Dari Persian (فارسی دری Fārsī-ye Darī) or synonymously Farsi (فارسی Fārsī) is a variation of the Persian language spoken in today's Afghanistan. Together with the Iranian Persian and Tajik dialects of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, it forms one of the three main pillars of Persian language and culture in the Persephone or Persianate world.

'Dari' is the term officially recognized, implemented and promoted since 1964 by the Afghan government for the Persian language. Hence, it is also known as Afghan Persian {Fārsī.ye Afghānī} in many western literary sources.

However, many Persian speakers in Afghanistan prefer and use the name 'Farsi' and believe the term 'Dari' has been imposed on them by the dominant Pashtun ethnic group as an attempt to distance Afghans from their cultural, linguistic, and historical affinity and background to the Persian-speaking world, which includes Iran, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Dari Language Classes

We offer a comprehensive schedule of online Dari language classes. The courses scheduled reflect our current students' needs and the anticipated requirements of new students.

Term 11 will begin in 8 days.

Each term runs for eight weeks, with Term 11 students continuing in Term 1 (2027). Classes meet once per week for 80 minutes. Children's 'Little Linguals' classes are one hour long. Indicated prices are per term (eight weeks).

Private (pick schedule)

We offer semi-private Dari classes or private Dari lessons for any level of Dari.

Some students prefer private lessons instead of a scheduled class, or occasionally take private classes to augment their existing, scheduled group course.

Private classes are more flexible than Group classes. They are tailored to specific learning and scheduling needs. They can be useful if a student's language knowledge is uneven, if a more intensified study program is needed, or if privacy is a concern.

With our large staff of native speakers, we can schedule private lessons in most languages.

Private lessons are available in packages of:

4 classes (80-minutes each)
8 classes (80-minutes each)
12 classes (80-minutes each)

Or, if you are enrolled in a group class, your private lesson can be scheduled individually.
